Vent Haven Convention!
I introduced him as a special guest who needed no introduction. The audience loved it! Afterwards I talked with the quartet. Not only did they invite me back for next years program, but they since they will be the singers at the 2007 International FCM convention in Marian Indiana this summer, they want to have Jazzman do a number while they sing back up for him. I'm not a ventriloquist, but those trax allow me to concentrate on the movements needed to bring him alive. He's a hit!

NON VENTRILOQUISM IDEA FOR PUPPETEERS, FOCUSING ON PUPPET MANIPULATION:
I'm actually now using the Jazzman for a musical non-ventriloquism show. It focuses more on puppet manipulation and music. It features a series of acts of rod and/or hand puppets performing to a black backdrop, in the style of Black Theater or Bunraku (Japanese style puppetry). Puppeteer is dressed in all black including a hood, so it appears the puppets move on their own. The puppets perform to background music. Most of the music is classical, except for the Jazzman which sings the recorded song. Music comes from artists such as Beethoven and Camille Saint Saens, etc. Other puppets are a violen player, a Chinese dragon, a dog, a snowman, an armless creature, and more.
IDEAS FOR VENTRILOQUIST STYLE:
He could say he's a pro at playing the trumpet, and at first attempts to play it. Make a dry blowing sound and gently vibrate his head (with trumpet in mouth) as he is "attempting" to play. Later of course us the CD for the music so he proves he is good at it. The start with the dry spitting sound is very funny.
Get some other friends who are ventriloquists and/or puppeteers and have other puppets that have instruments, and have a puppet band!
Do a sing along w/ the Jazzman, instead of him just singing by himself. Aaron
