SOUND ADVICE: You can perform this routine by playing the CD on a quality "boom box" portable stereo player in small areas, or over a professional sound system in large areas such as an auditorium or outside. Do not play on a small inexpensive CD player because the sound will distort when you try to play it loudly.

The CD should be played with plenty of volume.  Kids will be laughing hard and will miss the routine if it is too quiet, and adults may keep laughter to a minimum for fear of missing parts of the program.  The volume of the CD should be set about the same as if you were speaking over a microphone to be heard by the group, or louder.

It is best to have the CD played over a public address system and have the soundman preset the volume level to be compatible with the your microphone level.

Begin your presentation with the puppet in a case or off-stage out of view.

OPENING MUSIC

Y              Hello there, (name of puppet).

P             (looking around, distracted)   Huh?

Y              I said ‘hello’.  Are you ready for worship?

P             Oh …a…..hello.  (continues looking away).

Y              Are you okay?

P             Huh?  Oh yes….it is.

Y              Yes it is…….what?

P             …a nice day.  (looking around)

Y              (look at audience surprised)   Hello!  Earth to (puppet’s name)!

P             I couldn’t agree more.

Y              With WHAT??

P             (stunned)  What are you yellin’ about?   Are we finished yet?

Y              You aren’t even listening to me.

(hold puppets face and look directly into the face)   Please, pay attention!

P             Do what?

Y              Pay attention!

P             Sorry!  I’ve got a lot on my mind. (looks away again)

Y              Well, we are here to ……(you notice puppet is looking away again)

                (clear voice)

P             (still looking away but freezes).  Oops (holding still)…I did it again, didn’t I?  I’m in TROUBLE!

Y              Come here.

P             I’m sorry…ooh (leans on you)…you’re probably trying to talk to me but…Will you forgive me?

Y              Yes, now tell me what’s on your mind, so we can get back to business.

P             OK!   (music starts)

P             I’m thinking about my day

                Will everything be okay?

                Will I forget the rules?

Will I be late for school?

Will my homework float away?   (music continues)

Y              What?   How could your homework….

P             I’m wondering what I’ll do

If I ever catch the flu..aah choo!

Will I lay down in bed?

Am I sick in the head?

                I really don’t have a clue!

Y              You need to…..

P             I’m worried about my…(you close puppet’s mouth)   M-m-m-m-mmmm

Y              STOP!   Okay, now this is a problem.

P             The part about the homework or the flu?

Y              You are not paying attention!

P             To what?

Y              To me!  To what we’re doing here.

P             (looks out to audience)   What are we doing here?

Y              We are here to worship God!

P             (puppet looks up to the sky)  Oops…..sorry.

(To you)   I think I made a mistake.

Y              Tell me why.

P             We’re here to worship and I was….distracted?

Y              Very.

P             I was pre-occupied?

Y              Very

P             I was….

Y              (name of Puppet), I want you to make a choice right now!

P             I’ll take what’s behind door number two! Ha, ha, ha, ha!

Y              Come on, (name of puppet). You are worrying about a lot of things, but we are here to…???

P             Worship?

Y              Right!  And when you worry, you can’t worship because …..???

P             I’m too confused to worship God?

Y              Right!  So here’s your choice.  Worry…or Worship!

P             But I have a lot of problems, and I keep thinking about them over and over!

Y              If you have lots of problems, you should give them to God!

P             What if I get the flu?

Y              Then give it to God!

P              I don’t want to make him sick! Ha, ha, ha, ha!

Y              You’re silly.   Do you remember what we talked about yesterday?

P             I think so.  Was it the Bible Verse?

Y              Yes!  Good job.  Can you remember it?

P             Oh sure, I remember EVERY WORD OF IT.

Y              Good, then go ahead and tell us what it said.

P             Okay…it’s…a….a….could you help me get started?

Y              “Ddd”….

P             (confidently!)    Ddd.  That’s right.  Ddd! …    Ddd?

Y              Ddd…Doooo…..

P             Doooo  (nodding as if getting it)

Y              Doooon’t…..

P             Don’t?   Don’t do the verse?

Y              That’s the first word.  Remember?

P             Oh sure…. Don’t!   Of course I remember the first word.  Everybody knows that…it’s Don’t.   D-O-N-T  don’t.    Don’t what?

Y              Don’t be….

P             Don’t be….um-humm, um-humm… (nodding as if getting it)….

Y              ….anxious….

P             ….ANXIOUS, um-humm, um-humm….

Y              ….about…..

P             ….ABOUT, um-humm, um-humm…..(NODDING)

Y              ….anything.

P             …ANYTHING….  Don’t be anxious about anything!  See, I told you I knew it!  Ha, ha, ha, ha!

Y              Very good, (name of puppet).   That means not to worry.

P             Oh, I think it also said, “In everything give thanks!”

Y              Right! That means to worship Him!

P             So I should worship instead of worry!

Y              That’s right!

P             Well, great.  Hey...I’d love to keep chattin’ with ya’ but I need to get back to worshiping God…

Y              Good!

P             …Isn’t that what we were going to do before you distracted me?

Y              (Name of puppet)!!! Aahh!!  (big, wide eyes at audience as you put him away)
